This candidate has a first name

This candidate has a second name

It’s O-b-a-m-a

But I don’t like his middle name,

If you ask me why, ‘cause it’s HUSSEIN

Barack Obama has a way

To kill his campaign every day

Obama is a strange man

He has so many friends

One blew up Chicago

And never made amends

He has a preacher, name is Wright

The words he speaks, they bring a fight

Barack Obama has a way

To kill his campaign every day

He also has a family

He takes them on the trail

The wife watches him so closely

You’d think he had a tail

His wife is smart, that’s what they say

She also hates the USA

Barack Obama has a way

To kill his campaign every day

Supporters like him so much

They’ll vote for no one but

The thought of Mrs. Clinton

Makes their mouths go shut

They’d rather vote for John McCain

Than to deal with Bill and Hill again

Barack Obama has a way

To kill his campaign every day

WHO IS BILL MICK?
Bill is a product of West Virginia – Clendenin, WV was essentially Mayberry. A small town, everybody knew everybody else and it was nice. Bill's mom and dad had him in church every time the doors were open because that was what you did and it was what you believed. That foundation led Bill to public service and a concern for community that was inspired by his father’s dedication to church and community.

Bill became a cop in West Virginia, a career he never thought he would leave until retirement. It did not work out that way, but that was for the better. After the law enforcement career, Bill managed security and personnel in private industry, tried his hand at sales in various fields and umpired a lot of baseball. From recreational and instructional levels to college and minor league baseball, Bill spent a lot of time on the diamond. It was a passion, but so was talk radio.

It was the experience as an umpire, strangely enough, that gave Bill the confidence to give talk radio a shot. In umpire school you HAVE to be right all the time. Of course, you are not. You have to be confident in your ability and the reasons you do the things you do. Yes, umpire school proved that the learning does in fact continue every day. It’s the same with radio and the daily conversations about the issues impacting our lives.

After his years on the air in Brevard, Bill took an opportunity to take his show to California. It was a growing and learning experience and Bill is bringing that experience in tow as he returns to the only place besides West Virginia that really feels like home – Brevard County.

Bill, his wife Connie and their youngest son Tyler live in Satellite Beach. They have two older sons and two grandchildren (no matter how much Bill believes he is too young for such things).

Politically a Republican with some admitted Libertarian leanings, Bill seeks practical and common sense solutions to the problems that face our communities and the leaders we elect to deal with them. Following the money is wise, but electing leaders with integrity is more important. Combining the two should provide some decent results, according to Bill.

The Space Coast has so far endured Tropical Storm Fay.  We did not get through it unscathed, but we could have had it much worse.  We’ll evaluate where we are and what may be ahead as we get the conversation moving today.  We’d like to hear from you, where you are or where you were during the thick of the storm and how it has impacted your community.  Is there long term impact for your part of the Space Coast?  We’ll see how you are faring as we get things moving this morning.

Topic wise, it is a Wide Open Wednesday and we’ll go the direction you like.  On my mind: Senator Haridopolos is not satisfied with Amendment 5’s status so far (dead is not good enough, I suppose) and his statewide tour against it continues.  Is it a waste of time and money, a campaign to be Senate President or maybe both?  Let’s see…you allow your male child to cross dress, wear makeup and publicly declare his homosexual status and then sue the school board for failing to enforce its dress code.  There is more to this story than we know, but I think the parents have some responsibility in this.  Of course, they failed to meet it and now they want government to be the parent.  Might as well, they sure did not do the job!   PETA is completely ignorant and their latest idea proves it.  College presidents are banding together for the benefit of their students…I suppose.  They want the legal drinking age lowered to 18.  Does this strike you as odd?  Yesterday’s web poll is in play with California doctors being told their personal beliefs don’t matter.  And, with this being the first storm to impact us this season, is it price gouging or simply supply and demand?

With Tropical Storm Fay bearing down, I would like to take some time this morning and discuss our situation and what you can expect from WMMB.  This web site remains a great resource for what is happening now, not just for those of us on the Space Coast, but for our out of town families who can ALWAYS listen on line and keep reading our site for updates.  When they may not be able to reach you, at least knowing conditions in our area can be a comfort to them.

Remember, it is not the time DURING the storm that is the most dangerous…it’s the time after the storm when conditions can be most hazardous.  Downed power lines, nonfunctioning traffic signals, streetlights not working at night, flooding, displaced wildlife and many other things contribute to the danger in the hours immediately following the storm.  Be smart: know and understand the conditions you may be venturing into if you must be out after the storm.  We’ll be updating storm conditions and any closures or schedule adjustments as is necessary.  If we are in a disaster situation in the storm’s aftermath, WMMB will remain on the air and on line.  We’ve been through this together before…we will make it through it again!

Fortunately it does not appear (at 4am) as if the storm’s impact will be major.  We’ll have some wind and rain, tornadoes are possible, but it is not anticipated to be as strong as originally predicted.  Fay is about to make landfall near Naples and we should begin experiencing some increased winds through the morning.  The storm is expected to head through Titusville and off the coast.

We will try to maintain business as usual today…we have District 30 House Republican Candidates Ritch Workman and Tres Holton with us in our 7am and 8am hours.  We’ll continue to update you with storm information as conditions warrant.  In our first hour, we’ll Wide Open Wednesday it around the storm information.

Monday 08-18-2008 4:51am ET

On this Monday we’ll finish talking my first round of picks in the August 26th Primary election.  The remainder of my selections will come out in Thursday’s INSIDER, so sign up today if you are not already a member.  It’s right at the top of the page.

The weekend brought several stories to the table and an opportunity to catch some more Olympics coverage.  Ping Pong…yes, I watched Olympic Ping Pong early Saturday morning…like 4am, Saturday morning.  Archery (actually more interesting than I thought), Beach Volley Ball (the men-how stupid was that?), Track and Field is starting (not my favorite), Baseball (now you’re talking, except they tweaked the rules in a bad way), Swimming (Michael Phelps: Now there is a record that will stand a while) and Saturday evening before Phelps…The women in a marathon (I am sorry , I can’t watch people run and run and run for all that time- I wanted to throw something through the TV) but they are all getting coverage.  Now I am waiting for Greco-Roman Tidily-Winks or whatever other obscure excuse for competition comes next (and they are dropping Baseball and keeping Ping Pong????)!  Don’t get me wrong, I like the Games, but some of this is just silly.  Oh, and we got our first look at High School Football on Friday evening as our Satellite Scorps had an intrasquad scrimmage!

Speaking of the Olympics, NBC, the environmentally friendly network that ran a weekend ( or was it a week?) with all green logos back in the spring to increase Global Warming awareness (or whatever the stunt was about) is not so environmentally friendly as they broadcast from the pollution capitol of the world.  Seems the outside booth that hosts some Olympics and News coverage for NBC is air conditioned.  Yes, outside and air conditioned brought together by NBC!  We have some gun news this morning as Disney and Texas make some tweaks.  I believe Texas may draw a bit more heat than Disney on this one.  Maybe NBC could move to Texas after the Olympics.  These and other topics are linked below for your perusal and selection as we get the conversation started this week.

In our 7am hour, Mark Vance will join us and we are hoping for the long awaited return of Steve Bussey at 8am (OK, it’s only been 2 weeks, but the guy’s  kinda grown on us).  We’ll keep it WIDE OPEN WEDNESDAY style on a Candidate Free Monday and see where it takes us.

Well, the Amendment 5 question is moot for now.  A Leon County Judge has whacked it from the ballot.  Probably a good thing because of all the uncertainty…but I like getting the “taxes need changed jab” in whenever we can.  The INSIDER yesterday released about 2/3 of my Primary picks and we’ll talk it in our 6am hour today.  There are some related e-mails in the BML In-Box and you can see them for yourself to the left of this posting.  It was a good interview with Bill Posey and Alan Bergman in yesterday’s 8am hour.  Today we’ll talk with NPA and Democrat candidates for that 15th Congressional District seat.  If you miss any of the interviews, or any of the show for that matter, all show hours are available in the ON DEMAND section for a week following each show.  We’ll WIDE OPEN WEDNESDAY today’s first hour, so let’s get it started.

7am Thursday beings Matt Reed back to the studio for our Brevard Watchlist hour.  At 8am we’ll talk with Republican candidates for the 15th Congressional District seat.  We’ll start with a WIDE OPEN WEDNESDAY HOUR and let you lead the way.  In Matt’s column today he deals with an issue we had thought you had corrected with the County Commission years ago…a stop work order on the house Courtney Roberts was building in Cocoa Beach.  The Commission agreed to pay for damages they caused, allow the construction to be completed…and then staff started meddling again.  Two area coaches are fired for cheating…and the community is taking up for them?  Florida Today’s endorsement in District 31 is more evidence I made the right call…you see it and more of how I will vote and why in today’s INSIDER.  It comes out right after today’s show.  If you sign up before the show is over, you should get it in your e-mail by 10am.

It’s a WIDE OPEN WEDNESDAY and a Candidate Free Zone today!  We have a TON of Mickovers and new stories on tap…and plenty of time with no candidates to get to as many as we can.  But, as is our custom on Wide Open Wednesday, the topic control is yours.  Where do you want to go?  I am leaning toward the Obama “senior tax plan” and the China becoming the number one manufacturing nation and how both are solved by the FAIR TAX.  Plus there are some interesting twists that could get the mainstream media on the side of talk radio in the Fairness Doctrine issue.  We have not discussed the Property Appraiser’s Office investigation and arrest (pretty sure it not the last one) and how it impacts the election.  There are other social and even global issues deserving attention, so pick your topic and fire one off…we’ll see where it all takes us.

I will release my thoughts on the August 26th Primary beginning with this week’s INSIDER.  I will give you my take on many of the candidates and how I will or would vote.  I will hold off on others until a bit later.  I don’t do this to influence your vote, but to be open with you about who I am and where I am coming from.  If you agree, that’s great.  If you don’t, that is fine, too.  It is just me laying it on the line.  It’s up to you to make your own call.
