(Cape Canaveral, FL) -- The weather is looking good for this morning's critical test flight of NASA's new Starliner space capsule. It's scheduled to launch at 6:36 AM. The Starliner will eventually be used to ferry supplies and humans to the International Space Station.
Man Killed In Gunfight With Police
(Eustis, FL) -- A man is dead after a gunfight with law enforcement in Lake County. Eustis Police say Altoona's Jayson Colvin was shot to death last night after he allegedly shot Police Captain Gary Winheim, who's in stable condition. Winheim was apparently shot during a traffic stop yesterday afternoon near SR 19 at CR 44. The sheriff says several deputies fired at the 38-year-old Colvin, but it's not clear who fired first and the FDLE is investigating.
Key Figure In South Patrick Shores Contamination Debate Announces Plans To Move
(South Patrick Shores, FL) -- A key figure in the fight to expose the dangers of military waste in Brevard County is taking her family elsewhere. Sandra Sullivan is planning to move out of South Patrick Shores because of health concerns she has over military waste buried on her land on Dorset Lane. Sullivan and her neighbors have been trying to get the federal government to clean up their properties for about a decade, but the wait continues. She recently told Florida Today she doesn't believe the home is safe for her, her husband and their three children.
Parkland School Shooting Trial Delayed
(Fort Lauderdale, FL) -- A Broward County judge is delaying the trial of accused Parkland school shooter Nikolas Cruz. During a hearing yesterday Broward County Judge Elizabeth Scherer said there will be a hearing in March to determine what the new date will be, but it will likely be this coming summer. Attorneys for Cruz claim legal errors could occur leading to a reversal if the trial was not pushed back. Cruz faces 17 counts of first-degree murder and 17 counts of attempted murder in the 2018 Valentine's Day massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
Clearwater Approves Pedal Pubs
(Clearwater, FL) -- Pedal Pubs will be able to roll through part of Pinellas County. The Clearwater City Council yesterday approved allowing alcohol to be served on megacycles. A formal ordinance has to be written before pedal pubs can be seen downtown or on Clearwater Beach, and a vote is expected next month. Pedal Pubs are small bars that sit on wheels and are powered by a pilot who streers.
Georgia Family Finds Owl In Christmas Tree
(Newnan, GA) -- The holidays are a hoot so far for one metro Atlanta family. Katie Newman tells CNN her ten-year-old daughter discovered an owl living inside their Christmas tree last week. A representative with the Chattahoochee Nature Center checked the bird out and speculated it had been there since the Newman's bought the tree the weekend after Thanksgiving. Coincidentally, there were around a dozen owl ornaments on the tree.
New Jersey Woman Allegedly Bugs Daughter's Toy To Spy On Ex
(Hackettstown, NJ) -- A New Jersey woman is in custody for allegedly bugging her daughter's Minnie Mouse toy to spy on her ex-husband. Hackettstown Police say the wiretap was discovered when the former husband of 33-year-old Heather Bamford pressed the toy, hearing his and his daughter's voices come out through a recorder. It is not known how long Bamford had been spying on her husband using the device and stuffed toys. She has been charged with a wiretap offense and harassment.
