Satellite Beach Will Test Groundwater For Carcinogens (Satellite Beach, FL) -- Upcoming tests may be able to provide the answers some cancer patients are looking for in Brevard County. After almost two dozen Satellite High School grads recently came forward to report they had gotten cancer, Satellite Beach says it will test groundwater for cancer-causing chemicals.
Some of those alums gathered yesterday in Indian Harbour Beach to discuss why there have been so many cancer cases near Patrick Air Force Base. Some tell "Florida Today" they suspect chemicals found in firefighting foams that were used at the base for decades.
Police-Involved Shooting In St. Cloud (St. Cloud, FL) -- A man was shot by a police officer in Osceola County late Saturday night in a St. Cloud home. Police say they were responding to a call about a suicidal man when the man pointed a gun at officers.
One officer shot the man who is listed in stable condition. The officer is on administrative leave and the FDLE is investigating.
Shooting Near UCF (Orlando, FL) -- Another man was shot in Orange County yesterday. It was in a parking lot near UCF’s Lofts apartment complex. Deputies say a man and his girlfriend met another man to sell a gold chain, but the would-be buyer took the chain and ran off.
As the seller chased the suspect, deputies say the thief shot the seller. The victim is in critical but stable condition.
Thieves Targeting Unlocked Cars (Jacksonville, FL) -- Drivers are being warned to lock their cars after recent thefts in Jacksonville. A Mandarin resident caught two men on surveillance video stealing about a thousand dollars worth of stuff from his unlocked car.
The owner says the thieves struck twice, and he tells 'News 4 Jax' he's worried they could strike again.
Naked Man Tells Police He Wanted To Attract Women (Wilmington, DE) -- A Delaware man says he was trying to attract women while he was standing naked in his open garage. Police in Wilmington say a neighbor called 911 early last week after seeing 64-year-old David DiTonno in action, something that allegedly including performing a lewd act in plain sight.
Officers say they found him sitting nude in his garage with the door wide open and he told them he was looking to "gain attention" from women in the area. He's charged with indecent exposure and lewdness.
Toddler Bitten By Rabid Kitten (Wake Forest, NC) -- Three-year-old Riley Hogan of North Carolina is recovering from a rabid cat bite. CBS-17 says the little girl was walking with her aunt last Tuesday evening when the wild cat knocked her down and would not let her go.
Wake County animal officials later confirmed the cat was diseased and are putting out a warning to watch out for wild animals. Riley is expected to be okay and is being treated for rabies.
